Helpful Tips For Keeping Your Horseback Riding Clothing In Great Shape

Posted on

If you are an equestrian, it is probably important to you to keep a nice wardrobe of clothing that you can wear when you go riding. However, as you might already know, horseback riding and doing barn chores can be tough on your clothes and can cause them to wear out quickly. Luckily, following these tips can help you keep your riding clothing in good condition.

Buy Riding-Specific Clothing

First of all, it's a good idea to build a wardrobe of riding-specific clothing. This is a good idea for a few reasons. First of all, you probably do not want to damage your regular clothing by wearing it to the barn. Secondly, you should know that clothing that is designed to be worn by equestrians is often better suited for horseback riding and barn chores, and it can often hold up better to the strain as well. For example, buying leggings or cheap jeans is really no substitute for buying high-quality breeches or jeans that are designed for working outside. Along with looking for clothing that is designed for equestrians, it's also a good idea to go ahead and spring for quality rather than cheaping out. Even though there might not be anything wrong with going cheap when buying a shirt to wear for a night out, you are probably going to want to spring for higher-quality clothing when you are going to be wearing it for riding.

Choose Dark Colors

Another tip that can help you keep your riding clothing in good shape is to choose darker-colored clothing that will not stain as easily. No matter how careful you might be while you're in the barn, there is a good chance that you are going to stain your white and light-colored clothing with sweat, dirt, mud and manure. If you choose dark colors, however, they won't show stains as badly when you wash them.

Wash Barn Clothing Regularly

Even though you might be able to get away with wearing your regular clothing a couple of times in-between washes, this is not a good idea when it comes to the clothes that you wear for horseback riding or for working in the barn. Making sure that you wash your clothes quickly after wearing them can help you improve your chances of getting rid of stains, and you won't have to worry about lingering odors in the barn, house or car from your dirty riding clothes.

As you can see, there are a few tips that you can follow that can help you keep your horseback riding clothing in good shape. Then, as you build up your collection of riding clothing, you should not have to worry about it wearing out too quickly.
